Teaching STEM through Fairy Tales- Goldilocks and the Three Bears

In Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Goldilocks ventures into the home of the three bears, tasting their porridge, sitting in their chairs, and sleeping in their beds.  As she is trying out chairs, she accidentally breaks the chair of Baby Bear.  This week’s challenge is to design a chair that is “just right”.

For this challenge, students need to remember that Baby Bear is the smallest of the bears, so therefore, they are working to design the smallest chair possible while still meeting the criteria.  Materials are also limited, so students will need to think carefully about how to design and construct the best chair.
