Teaching STEM through Fairy Tales II- Aladdin

By December 11th, 2023No Comments

The last tale in our Teaching STEM through Fairy Tales II series is Aladdin.  The story begins as an evil sorcerer convinces Aladdin that he is Aladdin’s uncle.  He convinces the pair that he will set Aladdin up as a wealthy merchant and soon earns his trust. But, what the sorcerer really wants is for Aladdin to retrieve a magic lamp from a cursed cave.

In this challenge, students design and build a grabber device to help Aladdin safely grab the lamp from the cave without being trapped inside.  Using the NGSS Performance Expectations, students collaborate to find a solution.

Each fairy tale in this popular series includes an engineering challenge design brief aligned to NGSS engineering design performance expectations. Any supplemental resources needed (templates, targets, etc.) and interactive STEM notebook pages are also included.  With easy to follow teacher directions that outline the criteria, constraints and procedures, these stress-free plans will help you effectively implement STEM!
