Using the News Headline formative assessment is a great strategy to help students to summarize the day’s lesson. Students create their own headline then explain it in a couple of sentences.
This formative assessment strategy causes students to think carefully about what they have learned in the lesson and be able to reflect and concisely recap the concept (headline) in their own words.
As with any strategy or tool, we need to think carefully about the most appropriate one to use with our students that will help us to best reach our performance expectation. Through thoughtful selection, we can effectively promote student learning.
