This versatile assessment can be used at any time during a unit and investigation. For this one, the beauty is in its simplicity. While it only requires one sentence in each category, it can often reveal misconceptions.
When trying to identify misconceptions, most kids won’t speak up. They are, however, more likely to write them down. So, there’s an opportunity for the teacher to revisit these statements (anonymously, of course) for clarity.
As with any strategy or tool, we need to think carefully about the most appropriate one to use with our students that will help us to best reach our performance expectation. Through thoughtful selection, we can effectively promote student learning.
