This week, students explore the tale of The Steadfast Tin Soldier.  In this fairy tale, the Steadfast Tin Soldier falls in love with a ballerina. One night, a goblin warns the soldier to not fall in love with the ballerina, but the soldier ignores him.  The next day, the goblin pushes the soldier out the window and after a few mis-adventures, the soldier finds himself back with the ballerina once more.
In this fairy tale challenge, student teams design and build a pulley system to help our steadfast soldier get back up to the window ledge.
Each fairy tale includes an engineering challenge design brief aligned to NGSS engineering design performance expectations. Any supplemental resources needed (templates, targets, etc) and interactive STEM notebook pages fare also included. With easy to follow teacher directions that outline the criteria, constraints and procedures, these stress-free plans will help you effectively implement STEM!
