Best Picture Books for Teaching STEM- Iggy Peck, Architect

By December 11th, 2023No Comments

Iggy Peck, Architect is another one of Andrea Beaty’s creative characters (along with Rosie Revere, Engineer and Ada Twist, Scientist).  In this related book, Iggy Peck is a bright kid who loves to learn what interests him- building structures:

Iggy is a creative child who likes to construct buildings out of sand, glue, apples and whatever he can find. While his parent encourage him, his teacher discourages this because as a child she was touring a skyscraper and was left behind. One day the class goes on a picnic to a park. They walk across a foot bridge and it collapses. The teacher faints and Iggy leads the class to build a bridge to cross back over to the park. The teacher is delighted and now allows Iggy to talk to the class each week about architecture.

In this design challenge, students work with their team to design a suspension bridge that will rescue Iggy and his classmates.
